<\/a><\/p>\nUnd dazu ein Kommentar seines Segelfreundes Rob. Als Christian den Kingfisch endlich im Dingi hatte, meinte er: „I’m too old for this“. Darauf sein Freund Rob: „Bull“ I said, „you’ll never be too old, you’re not normal.“<\/p>\n Ob Christian nun „normal“ ist oder nicht – wir bewundern ihn (und ein bisschen bin ich, Erich, auch neidisch).<\/p>\n Christian und seine Frau Hannelore kennen wir beide seit 1994. Sie sind geb\u00fcrtige Cuxhavener, leben aber seit 1980 in Neuseeland. Die Eckhoffs sind von 1982 bis 2016 Seit ein paar Jahren segelt Christian die Donella auf dem Hin- und R\u00fcckweg mit 1-3 Freunden und Bekannten, w\u00e4hrend Hannelore f\u00fcr die An- und R\u00fcckreise aus gesundheitlichen Gr\u00fcnden (Stunts) den Flieger vorzieht.<\/p>\n Ein Platz im Guinness-Buch der Rekorde w\u00e4re den beiden sicher.<\/p>\n Christian bereitet die Reisen von und nach Opua akribisch vor. Insbesondere passt er die richtige Wetterlage ab. \u00dcber die insgesamt 70 Passagen in die S\u00fcdsee und zur\u00fcck aus der S\u00fcdsee kann er nichts Spektakul\u00e4res berichten. Zwei Ausnahmen:<\/p>\n Am 29.06.1995 verloren die beiden unter tragischen Umst\u00e4nden ihre „Donella“ bei der n\u00e4chtlichen Ansteuerung von Port Resolution, Tanna. Lt. GPS und neuester amerikanischer Seekarte waren sie noch zwei Meilen vom Ufer entfernt, in Wirklichkeit zeigte aber die Seekarte an dieser Stelle \u00fcber 3 Seemeilen falsch an. Da sie kein Radar an Bord hatten, konnten sie den Fehler nicht erkennen und liefen in stockdunkler Nacht bei Regen und begrenzter Sicht auf die Klippen. Die beiden haben das Ungl\u00fcck und die grauenhafte Nacht auf dem Riff ausf\u00fchrlich im TO Heft No 71 (1996) auf den Seiten 38-40 beschrieben.<\/p>\n Die Eckhoffs haben kurz nach dem Verlust eine gebrauchte 12m Kunststoff-Yacht gekauft, ihre zweite „Donella“, mit der sie bis heute unterwegs sind.<\/p>\n 2000 ist Christian beim Tauchen am Au\u00dfenriff von Minerva S\u00fcd von einem Grauen Riffhai attackiert und schwer verletzt worden. Dadurch, dass die NZ-K\u00fcstenwache zuf\u00e4llig in der N\u00e4he war, konnte er nach Tonga gebracht und operiert werden. Nur diesem gl\u00fccklichen Umstand verdankt er, dass er seinen Arm behielt. (\u00dcber diese Haiunfall kann man nachlesen<\/a>)<\/p>\n Wir haben uns 1994\/95 in der Bay of Islands kennen gelernt und sind seitdem befreundet. Die Freydis<\/em> lag 1996 ein paar Monate an ihrer Mooring vor ihrem Haus in Opua.<\/p>\n 1966 haben wir uns in Mc Cauley\/Kermadecs getroffen, 1999 zu Beginn unseres GEO-Abenteuers in Anatom\/Vanuatu, wo sie uns und das GEO-Team mit zahlreichen Tipps versorgt haben.<\/p>\n Die Eckhoffs waren mehrfach bei uns in Cuxhaven und Heidelberg zu Gast.<\/p>\n Sie z\u00e4hlen zu den intimsten Kennern der S\u00fcdsee von Franz\u00f6sisch Polynesien \u00fcber die Cooks, Tonga, Fiji, Vanuatu, Neukaledonien. Einsame entlegene Inseln und Riffe sind ihre Leidenschaft. Als Beispiele f\u00fchren wir an: Ceva-I-Ra, Hunter, Matthew, Walpole, Norfolk, Lord Howe, Huon – um nur einige zu nennen. Auch im hohen Alter jagt und harpuniert Christian noch Fische und taucht dabei immer noch gut 20 Meter tief (siehe oben).<\/p>\n 2013: Als wir am G\u00e4stesteg in Port Moselle\/Noumea anlegen, ist die „Donella“ mit Christian bereits da. Sie liegt drei Boxen weiter, ihr Skipper arbeitet gerade in der Mastspitze. „Wie bist Du da allein heraufgekommen“ fragen wir den 81-j\u00e4hrigen. „Ach, ich ziehe erst den Bootsmannstuhl hoch, klettere dann nach und setze mich hinein. Da kann ich in Ruhe arbeiten“.<\/p>\n So einfach ist das!<\/p>\n Date: 07 February 2018 at 17:53 Well, at last, our first crays for this trip & not from ARFA, but off Christian’s yacht Donella. We stayed the first night inside the Bay Of Islands at Urupukapuka Island, then in the morning Kim & Christian kicked me over the side at our not-so-secret scallop patch for a feed of those mouth-watering delights. Of course I didn’t let them down, then it was off to Whangamumu Harbour where we have been at anchor for almost a week, taking the dinghy out to various dive sites where we skin-dived only, because we only had one scuba tank of air left on board & I was saving that for a special occasion. Christian speared some beautiful fish to keep us living the good life and a couple of days before we had to head back toward home, we went out spearing again & I said: „bugger, should have bought a tank, I reckon there’s crays down there in the deep water.“<\/p>\n „Well then, we’ll go back to Donella & get you one then!“ which we did & I’ll let the photo speak for itself.<\/p>\n Oh, what a place, only trouble being it’s pretty deep where the big fellas are living, (like thirty -six metres plus), so dive-time was limited, but hey, four was plenty & I’ve left plenty in the „fridge“ for next time, should there be a next time & figure it’s not a bad birthday present to myself & it’s a good thing the old boy is still fast enough to grab a crayfish & hoping like hell it stays that way for a while yet.<\/p>\n On the last morning before we had to set sail for home we went to the rock again where Christian nailed this awesome fifteen kilo kingfish about which he remarked: that’s not a bad early eighty-sixth birthday present to myself considering that’s just next week. Can you believe it? In der S\u00fcdsee gehen Sie Ihrer Leidenschaft nach, Segeln, Tauchen (ohne Ger\u00e4te) und Unterwasserjagd. Sie ern\u00e4hren sich haupts\u00e4chlich von Fisch. 2017 fiel die Reise wegen Hannelores angeschlagener Gesundheit das erste Mal aus.
